Brass and Bamboo
Kyoto, JAPAN THIS IS AN ONGOING ITEM!
This brass serving spoon was created for the famous Kyoto style tofu stews as the flower cutouts strain the broth from the spoon. It is made by a 400 year old company in Kyoto that is well known throughout Japan for its knives and cookware. The spoon is entirely hand-made and is produced on a very limited basis. Each has the mark of its maker hammered onto the backside. At this company the relationship between the maker and the object is very important, the craftsmanship applied in creating this spoon demonstrates a lifelong practice and consideration. When balanced correctly on a flat surface the spoon sits upright. It does not get much better.
