This brass serving spoon was designed to be used with the famous Kyoto style tofu stews as the flower cutouts strain the broth from the spoon. It is from a store in Kyoto which has been operating for over 400 years and is well known throughout Japan for its knives and cookware. The spoon is entirely hand-made and is produced on a very limited basis. Each spoon has the mark of its maker hammered onto the backside. At this store the relationship between the maker and the object is very important, the craftsmanship applied in creating this spoon shows a lifelong practice and consideration. When balanced correctly on a flat surface the spoon sits upright. Perfect for taking boiling eggs out of the water.
