Handmade Cotton Indoor Slippers (Waraji)
$38.00
Nagoya
These handmade slippers are woven of recycled scraps of fabric by a 90-year-old woman. Just think when she was a young girl, Japan was an imperialistic country at the end of the Meiji era, it had only been open to trade and foreign influence (1853) for about 50 years. Surprisingly there are quite a few Japanese centurions (mostly women) from this era giving Japan the highest life expectancy in the world. The slippers she makes are made mostly for decoration or for wearing around the house. They come in size 6 or 7 only. Each slipper is one of a kind so the fabrics they are made of differ slightly.
Sorry,
sold out.
But there is lots of other nice stuff!
