Chalk
Schwabach, GERMANY

Chalk was first used in cave paintings. A simple material that occurs naturally, it was initially put into a stick form for artist’s use. Then in the 1800s, it was used in a classroom setting as classes had become larger and information needed to be presented to groups. This chalk has a handy sleeve which is movable, a practical feature as the paper otherwise always gets in the way. Ever use chalk on the sidewalk for hopscotch? Hopscotch originated in Britain during the Roman Empire as foot training for soldiers; children created the game to copy the soldier’s movements. In that respect, buying a box of chalk could provide a cheap alternative to the gym. The chalk + the sidewalk + you = good workout!
