OH, a hammer...who is it that longs to stare deep into a portrait of a hammer, eyes glazed over while visions of construction projects flow in and out. I need that person! Evert's studio, still largely intact as his daughter has taken great care, is a place of pure energy, filled with alive and forgotten tools, pigments, paints, brushes and materials of all kind. I sit in his studio, taking it all in, as well as the view, and then I look deeper inside the painting to see the great variety of color he has put into this single impression and I understand slightly what it takes to be a great painter. How to register the world and show others what it is you see.
