Marco ter Haar Romeny

Born in 1974 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Marco is a computer programmer by trade, an artist by night. He likes to work in the dark. He is one half of the project you are visiting now, called KIOSK. He is quiet but he likes to dance all night; much like the neons he creates, he sits silent and then radiates when electrified. Strange that, how people's creations are like them, as much as their pets resemble them, we are drawn to what we are.

You may have seen his work in the past at the KIOSK locations. For about 6 years I have been steadily working hard to convince him to give himself over to his neons. Now, I believe, the moment has come. He draws with neon. He animates it. He makes shapes and fits them into existing architecture, snug like, barely there, but very there.

They come naturally to him; I believe, if he could, he would drop all things and create one assemblage a day, sketching in light; endlessly taking pieces apart and forming new combinations. One day I hope to see him there. Like him, the work is humble but full of energy and knowledge. He says he likes to sneak them into the peripheral zone, just out of view, just in the corner of the eye. Stay to the side and bask in their light, turn the corner and you meet them head on. His tech and mechanical skills come into play with the animations and installs.

If you are keen and curious, an idea is to have him over and he'll find a good place for something new. Also, we show a few readymades here. Beautiful light at night. Beautiful light to live with. Neon always makes me think of New York, Seinfeld in particular, it makes me think of home. It warms me.
